MP3 Player Hack .. more POWAR!! my hackpod

Yo..

Wassup internets ..

I doubt i will be taking this out of the house .. but im doubting anyone would steal it ;)
Im sure they would be too purplexed as to what the hell it is ..

I got one of the slim mp3 player online (ebay) for like $20 / third gen mp3/4 player or something ..
It has the worst battery life of any device in recent memory.
So i fucking hacked it.

;)

Pretty bad when you have to hack an already questionable hack device .. like this ..

I first removed the unit chipboard from the outer layer of the chassy of the device.
It was painful ..  and the battery i removed from it was about the size of a nickel, stacked twice.

NO WONDER it had AWFUL battery life .
I took an old li-cad cell battery i had lying around .. and soldered  a + and - connection to it.
I then wired it to a breadboard, and then had the connections meet on the breadboard.

crazy ass side view

I took  the trusty dremel to my hackpod  (not authentic iproduct) :) I cut the case , shaving off a few inches in the middle, where the new pcb is laid out.
Here is a pic of the rear of the device. Is it just me or does this look like a bomb ?
I glued the PCB to the rear of the device so no tiny lead wires could move any further --
A trick i learned from many a soldering/hacking project. at least you can pull on the leads w/o ripping them from the board .. and having to repair your accident .. always a better idea ..

But, it works like a charm, and it is able to last an incredibly long time now. before i was getting 20-30 mins maybe out of a full 5-6 charge. I doublesided taped the battery to the case .. in case it goes bad, i could always easily replace it.

I know its ugly . ..  but i would rather have something that looks like this, than buy a new one with the exact same problem , and this particular one plays AVI files and mp3s .. so i am very partial so it.

Maybe this will help som eone. .. hack something,.
stop throwing stuff like this away .. landfalls are filled with working stuff .. why not hack it and get another few years out of it and make it better ? (than a new one)
