How to Hack a Heatsink/Fan to your CPU...

Hello All.
How to Hack a Heatsink/Fan to your CPU... ...
The problem: The motherboard doesnt fit the case, and is not from the original PC.  The heatsink will not fit
the motherboard, so here we have a cheap solution........................
 ZIP TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take one long zip tie, and loop it under the system board (before you put it into the case!) and then zip tie
it down tight.  This is on a P4 LGA socket brand new motherboard. Yes, i could have spend $10-20 for
the cpu fan, but I needed a case and Im on a tight budget anyway. so to save myself $50, I hacked an old
computer case with a dremel, and made it fit.

(Above) This is an above shot of the zip ties actually holding the heatsink/fan down onto the CPU/Board.
I left the zip ties long just so you could see what i looks like before i cut then short (not too short)
if you ever need to remove the CPU, just cut the zip ties. for 100+ on them its like $5 I use them on
everything. Also you get to see my foot :)

Here is the back of the case after I cut it out. The black line is what I have left to cut out.  I broke several
of the cutting disks on this one. It s a pain to cut the case at this angle. I had to cut this because the
VGA connector was too big to fit in the given space.

As a side note, the computer is working great!
Check back for more posts in the future.

How to fix a broken SATA port on a DVD drive or Hard Drive

Hello All...
Most of my posts are how to fix things... does that show you how things ALWAYS go for me?
It should.... everything breaks... I have to fix it.

The SATA port on the back of my DVD drive was broken off in the SATA connector wire. WTF NOW!?
Well.. here I am going to tell you how to fix it.
first, remove the SATA from any connections to the computer or drive.
Next, using a pair of tweezers, pull the L bracket from the SATA wire. This can be tricky.

After you have the Small 'L' plastic connector removed from the
SATA cable, go get some SKIN Glue... I use LIQUID BANDAID.
Its the greatest thing ever and I use it for everything like cuts, and
repair. using the tweezers, coat the base of the 'L' connector.
Set it into the place it used to be, and let it sit in place for a COUPLE HOURS - otherwise when you attempt to plug a sata cable back in - it will just get glued into place there.

now, with the liquid bandaid dropper, drop 2 ..........
ONLY 2.. drops on either end of the connector soaking it a little bit.
make sure the contacts are still flush with the 'L' connector.
use an edge of a piece of paper to clear away excess liquid bandaid.
Once you feel like you have it set into place good and cleared
the small extra excess LQ. Bandaid, WALK AWAY.

Let it sit for at least 90 mins before you try to plug in a SATA
connector. bandaid stuff takes a long time to dry, but works
great. this takes a little bit of patience, but worth it in the end.

XBOX360 RROD MODDED FIXED!!!!

Hello .....
I have a modded xbox 360 that was having the 3 red lights of dead (RROD)
Heres a top view of my modded xbox (above):

Heres a pic of the GPU. I have removed the heatsink, and Now, I need to remove all the excess
thermal paste. I think its causing the chip to become too hot.

I used a fingernail cuticle tool to actually remove the majority of the mess after the chip super heated the
thermal compound.  just scrape it off gently not hard and try not to damage the upper side of the chip itself.

Heres the CPU.  I used a sharp knife to scrape the top most section of the flat part of the chip.
I used that cuticle tool again to remove some more of the thermal compound around the base of the heating
element off the chip.

Heres a close up of the chips cleaned up. I threaded a couple underbelly screws to replace the infamous 'x' clips that cause part of the problem in the first place.

Heres an after the NEW thermal paste is applied. You can see there is still a small ammount of the original
residue from the original thermal paste still on the chips.  I tried to get it all off, but a small ammount wont hurt

I put the heatsinks back on, and for my xbox, I added CPU FANS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is how m$ should have done it in the 1st place.  I used a piece of double sided tape to attach the lower one (GPU) and another piece to attach the CPU's FAN. I also added another fan for more cold air on top
of them both w/ 4 leds.  On the bottom of the system there is yet another one of the 4 led cooling fans to
keep the chips cold from below.

You can see the low fan underneath the case, as well as the RROD is gone, and my nightmare of fans.
I just re-wired the regular fans in the case to have a molex connector, and to feed 4 more fans. When
the xbox's fans kick up to cool down the system, so does every other fan in the case.
This xbox runs cooler than my normal unmodded xbox 360.

And lastly heres an above view. I had a custom clear case made for it out of acrlic, by my stepfather!!
but thats all for now.  Working on something else now...
Looking for a 4th gen prelude vtec.
Take care/hope this helps.

Evo4g HDMI Mirroring (rooted)

So check this out....  if you have a rooted EVO4G...
and you used the unrevoked method, your hdmi port
will not function correctly.  It drove me crazy that
i paid a pretty penny for this and it wasnt functioning correctly.
so, i searched around, and eventually found this..
http://tinyw.in/05Y

But heres the deal..they dont explictly ..um explain how to install this
patch other than install this if this style thing.
So for you, my fellow androiders i want to explain this so you may too also stream netflix from you phone and then
play emulators on your hotel tv via a $3 ebay mini hdmi cable.

first, goto the first link. it will download a file. copy that file to the
root directory of your evo's sd card.

next, disconnect it from the pc and turn it off.  Restart it but hold the volume - (down) button and the power button.  It will take you into a recovery mode.
Select 'recovery mode' but using the volume controls up and
down and then finally the power button to select it.

then, go to 'Apply .zip from sdcard'  and this is the file we put into it earlier.
It will go through the install and might take like idk 5 mins, and bring you right back to the same screen selection after it is finished installing.  You can back up your system first if you feel the need to (i did) but its not needed, I know this one works.  But after its done select 'Reboot phone' and then your off!

goto the android market and search for HDMwIn and download the FREE app.
allow it to have SUDO (super user) access and then your off to hours of fun and gaming on your
super-awsome  killing EVO4G.

hope this helps...
